We Joined TICAD7!

From August 28th to 30th, the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) was held at Pacifico Yokohama in Yokohama city. Project Satoyama Energy exhibited some of our projects, and also the first lady of Madagascar visited our booth and discussed cooperation of the forest restoration between both country.

Our efforts for environmental protection were widely reported on the national newspaper of Madagascar, therefore we strengthened the foundation for further local connection.

On the last day, we got the great comment from the African Union Economic Commissioner, “This activity is necessary for Madagascar now!”

In Project Satoyama Energy, in order to reduce to the use of firewood and charcoal, which contribute to the destruction of forests in Madagascar, the Satoyama Energy School has opened locally to use the alternative energy. We also teach how to use carbonized rice and sawdust as solidified fuel and the installation of biogas.

In addition, as forest environmental education, we send a message to protect forests by a coloring book created with Women’s Art University in Tokyo and made a song for forest conservation together with Dareshia .

Currently, we have started to discuss the project in collaboration with the United Nations, and we hope to give shape to thought.
