Madagascar Mirai – Sing and Dance to the Song of the Forest!

Madagascar Mirai – Sing and Dance to the Song of the Forest!
Music designed for forest regeneration by Ecology Online.

Woodlands in Madagascar are disappearing at an alarming rate due to deforestation practices. In order to address this threat, in 2019, Ecology Online published a song that promotes the idea of forest conservation. The project is a collaboration between Ecology Online and “Dareshia, which acts of composing music.”

The lyrics of the song convey the importance of the jungle, and the accompaniment is based on an analysis of popular Madagascar music. It is danceable music that allows children to have fun.
Despite not having studied this topic, through familiar music, this song provides an opportunity for all people in Japan and Madagascar to learn about forest conservation.

In August 2019, Ecology Online presented this music in The Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) in Yokohama, Japan. Ecology Online was able to discuss cooperation between Madagascar and Japan regarding forest conservation with the president of Madagascar’s wife upon her visitation of Ecology Online’s booth.

The project is supported by crowd-founding in Japan. Over one hundred Japanese people voluntarily contributed to the project via financial donation. Collaborators include various ambassadors, JICA, the city of Gunjo in Japan, the host town of Madagascar Rugby Women’s
Sevens, several Japanese Elementary schools, various musicians, and radio stations. Overall, an unprecedented group of people has gathered together to create this unique project.

The project aims to sell its completed music and donate a portion of the sales towards the cause of stopping deforestation. Ecology Online plans to broadcast this song in Japan and Madagascar, hoping to reach a wider audience and teach the importance of the affected forests.
